SECOND-ROWER Nelson Yei scored a hat-trick to help Mendi Muruks beat Central Dabaris 38-4 in round eight of the Digicel Cup at Port Moresby’s Oil Search National Football Stadium yesterday.
Muruks winger Leon Undipia also starred in the win as he scored a double in a seven-try haul by the Petroleum Resources Kutubu-sponsored side.
Dabaris coach Gairo Pepena said after game that his side couldn’t match the Muruks outfit.
“The Muruks were too good and they outclassed us,” Pepena said.
“We’re still lacking in many areas of our game.”
Muruks coach Roderick Puname said he was thrilled with his men’s defensive effort.
“It was a dominant performance,” he said.
“The team showed a lot of improvement in some areas of our game and it’s great to continue the momentum.”
Yei opened the scoring and halfback Joshia Jimmy converted the second-rower’s try.
Muruks winger Bob Tenza scored five minutes later in the corner, but Jimmy failed to add the extras as his side led 10-0 15 minutes in.
The Dabaris responded with a try to second-rower Steven Tai in the 25th minute, but Nicky Hasu failed the conversion which saw his team trail 4-10.
