INVESTIGATIONS into the mysterious plane, which almost caused an air accident in Morobe, show it was an Australia-registered aircraft, investigators say.

Accident and Investigations Commissioner Capt Minson Peni and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority chief executive officer Wilson Sagati said this during a press conference with Civil Aviation Minister  Davis Steven last Friday.

Peni said the investigators had identified the aircraft and the pilot and found out that it was piloted by an American.

He said they would release a report shortly.

Sagati said CASA Papua New Guinea had sought help from CASA Australia to deregister the plane.

“This will send a signal out that our airspace is not to be abused and that we will not entertain any incursion of our airspace,” he said.

He said the Government was committed to fund 100% surveillance to monitor our airspace.

Stevens said he wanted to make sure that PNG airspace was free from illegal and mysterious flights.
