WEWAK’s Boram Airport terminal will still be built in the second phase of the civil aviation development investment programme (Cadip), according to National Airports Corporation (NAC).
Acting managing director and chief executive officer Rex Kiponge said Boram missed out on the new terminal because of weather and the impacts of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
“The contractor was concentrating on the runway and apron,” Kiponge said.
“The re-sealing of runway, taxiway and apron is complete.
“Solar precision approach path indicator (Papi) installed and commissioned and jet operations (will) resume this month.
“Temporary terminal building completed. This will be converted to cargo facility upon completion of terminal building refurbishment.”
Kiponge said the outstanding work included:

  • AIRFIELD ground lighting, runway lights to be installed in Jan next year. Shipment from overseas (factory in Belgium) delayed due to Covid-19 restrictions;
  • NEW terminal building has been de-scoped and maintenance works commenced on the existing terminal building whilst passengers are being processed from the temporary terminal building. Maintenance works will be completed and operational by January 2022; and,
  • THE new terminal building has been included in the proposed Cadip phase 2 which is anticipated to commence in the second half of 2022.
