THE Nakanai development authority (DDA) has started delivering despite its insufficient resources.
Acting Nakanai administrator Wilfred Augustine said that although it was a new district created by the Government, work had already started to deliver projects and services to the people.
“Last Friday, we hosted our first quarter reviews for the local level governments (LLG),” he said.
“We have seen the four LLGs presenting their procurement reports and financial reports.”
Augustine stated that Hoskins LLG and Mosa LLG had done well in terms of the implementation of programmes to help youths and farmers.
He said that sufficient human resource was needed in Central Nakanai LLG, whereas more focus would be given to East Nakanai LLG where the district headquarters would be established.
“The only challenge that East Nakanai LLG had was that they do not have an office building because it was burnt down by criminal elements last year,” he said.
“Since then they have been operating without an office space for about six to seven months.
“But we managed to renovate one of the old buildings to allow for the LLG officers to have a space to carry out their duties.”
The refurbished office building was opened by the Nakanai DDA board last Tuesday.
Augustine also added that there were administrative issues that the DDA needed to address as well.
“The main common issues we have seen in the LLGs is the late opening of accounts and release of funds, affecting operations and delivery of services he said.
