Namah ‘aggrieved’ by decision on case against PM

VANIMO-Green MP Belden Namah says he is “aggrieved” by the Supreme Court decision on Friday to dismiss the case he had filed in March questioning the constitutionality of James Marape’s election to be prime minister.
“I would like to inform and assure the people of our beautiful country that all hopes are not lost. I will stand to fight through every legal process to seek justice.”
The Supreme Court ruled on Friday that Namah was “suspended from duty” as an elected leader when he was referred by the Public Prosecutor to the Leadership Tribunal on Oct 18, 2017 for misconduct in office.
The tribunal later found him guilty and recommended that he be dismissed as an MP.
He later was granted a stay order by the National Court on the tribunal’s ruling. The substantive matter is pending in court.

  • Some elected leaders tend to get bogged down in trivial petty politicking and lose track of their primary responsibilities required of them by their voters. They also lose sight of the developmental aspirations of their people and the vision & planning required to achieve those aspirations. Do such people deserve to wear the mantle of leadership in this country, let alone their respective electorates?

  • It is an interesting case that needs to be properly interpreted and clarified by the court – someone in the opposition needs to take it up given Belden’s inability as the opposition leader (due to dismissal/stay orders).

We may be talking negatively about the case he’s trying to pursue thinking its trivial and just petty politics but it is the constiutionality that him/opposition trying to challenge – is James elected legally as stipulated under the constitution/laws of the contry. Did the parliamentary process of appointing the PM during the VONC fully conform to the legal processes?

I do agree James is doing okay in the PMs role but the law needs to be properly claried and understood whether the process taken to elect him was within the constitution/law. This will set the precedent for future election of PMs in similar circumstances James was elected last year.

  • Just accept the decision from SC and go back home and do something useful in your village.
You have never been a good opposition Leader…Too much barking just for the sake of barking without teeth.
The case that you pursued was your personal interest and not for the nation because PM JM won on big margin on clean process and there is NO legal issue regarding that VONC.
