Namah not a hero

Letters

VANIMO-Green MP Belden Namah claims that his imprisonment during the Sandline crises is to save 360,000 Bougainvilleans.
He claims that as a result of this imprisonment, he has gained special respect as a hero in PNG.
The truth is that Namah’s protest against the Sandline has nothing to do with saving Bougainvillean’s from the Sandline military.
Namah protested against the government under Sir Julius Chan to remove Sandline simply to protect the integrity and reputation of the PNG Defence Force because at that time, the Sandline’s presence in the country simply exposed the defeat of the PNG Defence Force by the Bougainville Revolutionary Army.
Namah must not mislead the people of Bougainville and PNG.
Him and his platoon, while in Buin, South Bougainville has a track record of committing serious war crimes in which the Government failed to address when these allegations were initially raised.
Let us not be fooled by selfish politicians who use the Bougainville crisis to score points for themselves claiming themselves as PNG and Bougainville heroes.
If he really clams to be a Bougainville hero, he must support Bougainville’s pursuit of independence and do everything under the sun to get Bougainville become independent from PNG.
