OPPOSITION Leader Belden Namah has refiled his special application questioning the legality of Prime Minister James Marape’s election after it was dismissed on technical grounds on Friday.
In a press conference yesterday, Namah made it clear that the decision by the court was not based on issues raised in the substantive application but based on technical errors made when filling the application.
“I want to inform the nation that I have filed a new application questioning the constitutionality of Prime Minister James Marape’s election,” Namah said.
“I want to make it clear that legal proceedings that the Opposition are pursuing which we initiated on Sept 23, 2019 has nothing to do with personal or political interests.
“It is the duty of the Opposition to ensure that the Government is accountable and transparent for the people of our country,” Namah said.
“Without a vibrant Opposition, we can have a government that can run amok and can do things against the constitution of our country.”
The Opposition claimed that it had observed flaws in the election of the prime minister in May last year.
Namah claimed that it was his duty as the leader of the Opposition to ensure that proceedings of Parliament were correctly carried out and the Speaker followed the provisions in the Constitution.
He said it was the responsibility of the Opposition to ensure that the government of the day was kept in check at all times and to protect the Constitution.
“A transparent democratic process is the cornerstone of our country, we must stand together to protect it no matter how much we are criticised.”

  • Build a fence along the entire border.
Where going to need it on day.
Starting now, be prepared don’t wait for Indonesia to start pushing through, which they will in time.

  • PM James Marape has grounded all international flights, now the challenge is the Land sharing boarders which Namah is bound to reflect his attitude characters as a former vibrant soldier towards supporting the government to fight and prevent the spread of COVID 19…withold, delay and suspend any debatable issues until PNG is set free from the pandemic virus.

  • By now, I think and I am sure MP Beldan Nama is right. That’s all I can say as simple public servant.
PMJM you knew that, why not you accepted that the process, procedure and protocol you followed to become PM were in one way or the other breach certain by-laws and regulations. As stated and let me quote ‘there’s no transparent democracy process follow.
Simple, PMJM accept that and move out off your seat and let’s see what’s next.

    Thank you

  • I think the opposition is subsequently right in that Mile stone, there is no way in the democratic country that a country cannot run with out the opposition, I personally respect what he’s saying.

  • Both Opposition and Government Leaders good on you guys fight for our Country and the very best thing to do now is to look after our People and our Country to fight against Covid-19 out of the Country.
