NaMBAWAN Super Limited (NSL) claimed the Private Companies Netball Competition second-division title with an 11-9 win over Pacific Industries in the grand final at the Rita Flynn Indoor Complex in Port Moresby on Sunday.
NSL were effective potent in attack and they contained Pacific Industries’ offence to close out the win.
Pacific Industries retaliated through their midfielders to provide enough possession for their shooters but the damage had already been done.
NSL coach Kilala Owen said she was not expecting her team to go deep into the final. “We stuck to our game plan,” she said.
“Throughout the finals, we used different game plans in each of our games.
“Since it was my first time to coach in the Private Companies Netball Competition, my expectation was to play in the semifinals so that my players could get a taste of playing competitive netball.
“But when we reached the semifinals, we were in great form so we stayed focused.
“Today, we won the grand final which is a great achievement for our team and supporters.”
Former Papua New Guinea Pepe Owen said reaching the grand final required hard work.
“I acknowledge my players for their consistency and teamwork which brought us this far,” she said.
“It is more about passing on the skills that I have at the elite level to the girls and to give back to the sport through coaching.”
