The naming of the final 12-member squad for the PNG Palais will allow the team to focus on their communication and defence, says coach.
This will be done during their final week of preparations in Port Moresby as they gear up for the Sydney sevens (Jan 26-28).
The national women’s rugby sevens team was named by Palais coach John Larry after a trial match on Saturday at Bava Park.
“During the trail match I wanted to see the girls to communicate more on the field, the line support was good,” Larry said.
“When we are tried we fail to communicate in the rucks, in attack and defence. That is one area of our game we have to work on.
“During the next week of training with the final squad, we will concentrate on our tackling and set plays.
“We want to get the ball quickly out of the rucks and make good decisions on the field.”
Competition for places was tough as players sought to earn a spot in the final line up for the first tournament in what will be a momentous year for PNG rugby 7s.
