Namo’ Aporo election delayed yet again
The National, Monday December 16th, 2013
I WRITE to express my view in the manner in which the Namo Aporo general election was conducted by the electoral commission officer overseeing the election in Moro recently.
It is disappointing to see the long anticipated election delayed again for an indefinite period.
After three long years of waiting for a proper general election of the chairman, the people of Fasu and other beneficiaries in the Kutubu PDL 2 project area in the Southern Highlands were let down again by the electoral officer.
The election of the association chairman was a final direction ordered by the National Court.
What transpired prior to the election is something highly suspicious.
Instead of conducting the election straight away by way of voting, the electoral officer allowed parties to express dissatisfaction and complaints.
This transpired into a lengthy argumentative discussion which caused the delay of the election for an indefinite period.
The electoral officer is not a judge or a magistrate to make decisions and change the directions and orders given by the high court.
He should face contemptuous charges for his actions.
What is wrong with the Electoral Commission and its officers?
No wonder EC is always at fault for almost all the failed elections in the country.
