Namuesh asks PNGFA for selection criteria

MOROBE Wawens owner Andrew Namuesh has called on the Papua New Guinea Football Association to disclose its selection criteria to allow teams to develop their players accordingly.
He was responding to the association’s stance that the selection of players for the national men’s squad was transparent.
Coached by Brazilian Marcos Gusmao, the squad are preparing for next year’s World Cup qualifiers in Qatar.
Namuesh said if the selection process was fair, the criteria should be disclosed to support it.
“If it was disclosed, it would also help franchise owners develop their players according to the criteria,” he said.
“The time was insufficient for a player to take part in the (recent) trials.
“The players picked for the trials were allowed five to 10 minutes to play.
“How can you select them as they didn’t utilise their full potential in the limited time they had?”
Lae Football Association president Roy Kamen said selectors should be neutral and not part of any National Soccer League club or the association.
“That is why we have the league from which to pick national players,” he said.
“If there is a composition of players from only one or two teams then there may be an element of bias.”
