THE Port Moresby Women’s Softball Association (POMWSA) featured another exciting game on Saturday, as Nasfund Team One rallied from two runs down to beat Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA PNG) 5-3.
Heading into round three of the corporate slow-pitch competition, CASA took control of the match to keep Nasfund scoreless in the first three innings.
The scorching heat didn’t prevent fans from supporting and kept the game exciting as both teams scored a point after three innings.
Nasfund’s Hamilton Riman struck an explosive home run in the last inning which gave them the scoring momentum and resulted in the two-point victory.
CASA trailed by one and came back firing with a huge two-run triple in the fifth inning, nearly completing the comeback, but time caught up with them.
Nasfund Team One captain Bradley Bonjui told The National that they were happy with the result.
“CASA gave us a good challenge to keep us scoreless at first,” he said.
“But we managed to score after that home run by Riman.
“It was a tough game, but a good win for us.” Bonjui said the improved performance by Nasfund would be maintained in the next game.
“We emphasised more on good ball catching, fielding and scoring,” he said. “Softball is a technical sport, so we just need to get the basics right.
“That was what we did, so I was pleased with the performance.”
Meanwhile, the association urged fans to turn up and support their teams at the Bisini Diamonds on the weekends with competition slowly picking up.
