THE National Fisheries Authority is assisting schools in Lae build fences to protect their properties.
One of them is the Bowali Primary School which has 28 teachers and 800 pupils.
Authority managing director John Kasu officially handed over the K900,000 facility to school board chairman Tawas Ngasinom and teachers last Wednesday. The school is near Yanga and Wangang villages where the K662 million fisheries wharf project is located.
Kasu said the Wagang fisheries wharf project was important to the area. “Developing human resources to maintain the future of the project is important,” Kasu said.
The authority also assisted the Angau Memorial Hospital with cancer equipment costing K4.3 million last year.
School head teacher Allan Apuahe said they needed the fence to protect school properties.
“After the fencing, we anticipate to build three eight-in-one double classrooms, an administration office and a duplex comprising 16 units to cater for our teachers.”
