TEAM National Capital District has organised a nines tournament for men and women at the Kone Tigers Oval begin selections for next year’s Papua New Guinea Games in Southern Highlands.
The two-week event started yesterday and will end with finals next week.
Assistant coordinator Warren Metofa said many teams had shown interest to take part in the tournament.
“There’s a total of 25 teams – 20 of them are men and five are women – competing in the tournament,’’ Metofa said.
“Many of the players from Digicel Cup and Hunters came to play with their respective teams to support them.
“However, the priority of the selection will be given to the raw talent from local clubs so that they can improve their skills level and gain exposure.
“The Hunters and Digicel Cup players have reached a high level in football and there’s no need for us to select them. Our intension is to create an avenue for raw talent to improve their skills.”
After the tournament, selections for other sports will follow, according to Metofa.
