NCD leg of Ipatas Cup lacks respect for match officials

ONE thing missing from Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup National Capital District leg fixtures has been respect for the match officials, says competition coordinator Simon Maima.
Maima made the comments after the semifinals which saw referees walk off the field after constantly being challenged throughout the two clashes.
Maima said it was embarrassing to see players behave in an immature manner and question every decision a referee made. He said this was disruptive and showed the players had no consideration or respect for the game and those who worked to ensure the tournament ran well.
He said some of the players who acted this way were experienced Digicel Cup players.
“This is uncalled for as these elite players have brought the game into disrepute with their protests over referee calls,” Maima said.
Maima said in contrast the Central leg and gone smoothly with trouble-free finals.
“I strongly appeal to QPR Colts and 7-Mile Jets to stop their behaviour as it is affecting our competition and just let the match officials do their job,” he said. “The experienced players in these teams who are causing the problem should know better. You are spoiling it for the young players coming through and showing them a bad example.”
Maima said clubs needed to instill discipline into their ranks and always place the reputation and good of the sport above their own interests.
