National Capital District is keen to lead the way for the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League’s newly introduced schools competition.
NCD school league competition Pool B coordinator Joseph Dongari said his side of the competition that comprised primary and secondary schools in the Moresby South electorate had started their competition according to their own schedule which was in line with the school calendar.
“Now we are coming closer to our finals,” Dongari said.
“The competition had a two-week break because the students were on holiday.
“Now that school has started, we are looking forward to another tough competition among schools in Pool B.”
Pongari urged all teachers and students to be prompt at games on Saturdays and Sundays at Sir William Skate Oval at Kaugere.
Dongari thanked the PNGRFL and PNG SP Hunters management for giving the opportunity to their Under-16 and U18 squads to play a curtain-raiser for the Hunters and Burleigh Bears two weeks ago.
“These are the kinds of recognition that we want for the juniors who are tapping into the world of rugby league,” Dongari said.
“The more we give recognition to the young players, the more interest they have to take the sport to next level as young players.”
He also thanked the coordinators of Pool A and Pool C, the principals of the schools involved, the teachers and the students themselves.
Dongari is urging the schoolboys league management to consider involving elementary school students in the programme as well.
