NCD traffic police get help from headquarters

WITH challenges presented by inadequate resources, manpower and funding to maintain police work, small contributions to various police units go a long way, an officer says.
National Capital District’s (NCD) traffic police received a computer, printer, accessories, stationery and a digital camera yesterday from their headquarters in Konedobu.
NCD traffic police officer in-charge Snr Insp Joseph Salle said the equipment would help ease challenges his unit faced as they were having difficulties producing reports because of shortage of computers, printers and other stationery.
“Officers have been using my secretary’s computer to compile reports and that has been really challenging, especially when she has other work to do,” he said. “She also types court files.
“We have no choice but to use whatever resources are available.”
Snr Insp Salle said they needed more help to prepare court files because courts in NCD did not accept hand-written files.
“It’s all about safety,” he said.
“There has been an increase in the number of defective cars being used, especially at night.
“I am calling on motorists to have some pride in their vehicles and take ownership of them.”
Chief Insp Salle thanked road safety director Insp James Leoleo for recognising and responding to his unit’s need.
Insp Leoleo said he was aware that there had been a lot of accidents in the capital and the demand for traffic services was high.
