NCDC to revisit betel nut laws

NEW laws being implemented by the National Capital District Commission against people chewing betel nut in public motor vehicles will be revisited, city manager Leslie Alu says.
He told The National that they would revisit the penalties and activities they imposed recently.
He said they will try to come up with better laws for the benefit of everyone affected.
This way, they would be able to drive their efforts forward toward finding lasting solutions, Alu said.
“We would decide whether to continue to enforce those same laws or do away with them.
“This would call for proper budgetary requirements as well,” Alu said.
NCDC is currently enforcing a penalty of K300 fine for anyone caught chewing betel nut in PMVs.
Alu said the penalties imposed are still in force and that their operations remain as usual.
He was responding to concerns that the departure of the buai ban controller and deputy city manager Honk Kiap would impact on the operations of the ban.
“Under the buai ban legislation, I would take over the position as the controller until we appoint suitable person to oversee the operations,” Alu said.
