NCSL legally registered ‘poro’ as its trademark, boost for marketing

PORO is now a legally registered trademark of the Nasfund Contributors’ Savings and Loans Society (ncsl).
NCSL in a statement said a certificate of registration was issued by the intellectual property office of PNG in August this year.
Ncsl paralegal officer Rose Manjanaik said the registration prevented unauthorised use of the word mark ‘poro’ by other entities, businesses or individuals. “Having the word mark ‘poro’ registered prevents trademark breaches by any entity or individual,” she said.
“Ncsl has exclusive rights to the word ‘poro’ and will claim relief in the event of an infringement.”
Team leader marketing and client relations, Evelove Farapo said it was a boost for marketing as a stakeholder and service providers could easily relate the registered trademark to the ncsl brand which could be used exclusively to run promotional campaigns.
The registration of the ‘poro’ trademark is for a period of 10 years from Sept 7, 2021 to Sept 7 2031.
