Members of Nasfund Contributors Savings and Loan Society Limited (NCSL) can now access NCSL services via their mobile phones using the unstructured supplementary service data (USSD) service.
According to NCSL, the USSD service is a global system for mobile (GSM) communication technology used for sending text messages between a mobile phone and SaveLoanSmart (SLS) over the network.
Members can now use the USSD to view their balances, apply for savings withdrawals and 1:1 loans via their mobile phones.
NCSL general manager Vari Lahui said this service would make it easier for members to access their savings account with a few clicks on their mobile phones.
“This process has simplified work and will further reduce the waiting time,” he said.
“The society is continuously looking at new initiatives to bring our services closer to our members with just a click of buttons.”
Lahui said the USSD service was now available to bmobile-Vodafone and Digicel users, and is accessible on all phone types from one-band simple keypad phones to android/smart phones.
“We will expand to Telikom once we have enough members using the Telikom mobile services and when we see the demand for it,” he said.
“To access this service, members are to enter the prompts *628# and press the send button.
“Members will then be asked to enter their membership number and follow the steps in the drop-down menu for balance enquiry, savings withdrawal or loan.
“Members who are yet to register their mobile number on the system will receive a message prompting them to contact NCSL, to complete a form to register their mobile number before they can access the service.”
The project took more than three months to set up with the mobile operator before final tests were done.
