N’dranou: Rules ensure safer community

PEOPLE need to listen and follow instructions issued by police or other law enforcement agencies to ensure there is peace and order in our communities, an official says.
National Capital District (NCD) Met Supt Perou N’dranou said people in cities and towns needed to understand that following rules and regulations would contribute to safer and cleaner streets, cars and public walkways, facilities and other amenities provided for them.
He said petty crime, littering, defacing public property, graffiti, traffic offences and loitering could be minimised if people were sensible and followed general rules on public safety, rubbish disposal and vending.
N’dranou said it was evident many people had no respect and concern for the laws and proper conduct and this led to problems in the city.
“Parents of children that are loitering and selling things on the street must take the responsibility to talk to their children about laws of the country and proper conduct.
“All parents and guardians must teach their children at home so they know what is acceptable and what is not; so when they go out in public, they will have a sense of respect for the people and properties.”
N’dranou yesterday conducted foot patrol with other officers from the Boroko Police Station around the Boroko area and spoke to people advising them of their responsibilities.
He said police throughout the city would start doing foot patrols in their respective precincts to keep the peace and order in public areas and give confidence to the people.
