NATIONAL Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’dranou says officers who abuse their powers and authority while performing their duties will be disciplined.
He reiterated Police Commissioner Gari Baki warning that corruption and abuse would not be condoned in the constabulary. N’dranou has set up a team comprising detectives, mobile squad members and officers from the Internal Affairs Directorate to deal with officers who step out of line.
He has set the ball rolling by effecting the arrest of four policemen implicated in various serious offences over the past three weeks.
N’dranou said the team was headed by Senior Sergeant Apollos Terry, the officer in charge of the Gordon Minor Crimes Unit.
Two policemen were recently arrested over allegations that they received K50,000 from a suspected Asian operative in Port Moresby.
