The National Executive Council (NEC) will soon make a decision on the gazettal of two days of public holiday on Nov 15 and 16 as part of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders’ summit.
Apec Coordination Authority chief executive officer Chris Hawkins, pictured, told the media yesterday that there had been consultation with the business community.
“They (public holiday dates) are going to NEC very soon,” he said.
“We have had public consultations with the business community. Those days are now to be considered by Cabinet to make a decision for gazettal.”
Meanwhile, in terms of local PNG media for the leaders’ week, Hawkins said it was a practice for local media to be given preference.
“While we have 2000 international media here, we cannot let our media not to be front and centre to the action,” he said.
“Of course, they (foreign media) are getting the news out globally which is important, but the people of the nation want to know what’s going on.
“They want to hear and see about everything that’s going on with Apec.
“I can assure you guys (PNG media) that you will be right in the thick of it for the Apec leaders’ week.”
