NEST club coach and former Papua New Guinea sprint champion Nelson Stone says his athletes are primed for the Kimbe leg of the PNG Air Athletics Grand Prix Series this weekend.
The 37-year-old said 16 of his athletes travelled yesterday to the West New Britain capital where they would compete at Sasi Muthuvel Stadium.
“My athletes are ready,” Stone said.
“I have 16 competitors, including female athletes in Shirley Tubuso, Rebecca Kumbu, Elizabeth Larie, Salome Yalin and Rachel Lane.
“My female athletes will be competing in the 100m, among other events.
“I have three male jumpers and the other eight men are all sprinters in 100m, 200m and 400m.”
The athletes have been training since November last year despite the Coronavirus situation and are in good form for the Kimbe leg, which is a lead-up to next weekend’s national championships.
“We’re looking forward to the Grand Prix and national championships,” Stone said.
Stone said he was counting on Kumbu and Eldan Toti to retain their national titles in the long and high jumps respectively.
