THE newly-appointed board for Water PNG is now entrusted with the main responsibility of overseeing the merger with Eda Ranu, an official says.
Chairman Herbert Namani told The National that he had confidence in the new board as the directors were highly experienced individuals, including those from the former Eda Ranu and Water PNG boards.
“They bring lots of memories from those former boards but I am confident in the board and looking forward to lead the team,” he said.
“It would be a big challenge ahead for us with a lot of responsibilities and it will require a lot of effort at the board level.”
Namani, a lawyer by profession, is not new to the management, being on the boards of private sectors but it’s his first time to be working with State-owned entities (SOEs).
Currently, he is the chief commissioner for PNG Accidents and Investigation Commission and served on various private sector boards.
Namani’s appointment on the board for Water PNG and those of other directors including, Tamzin Wardley, John Cholai, Aiwa Olmi and Ako Toua were for three years.
Namani said Kumul Consolidated Holdings (KCH) was in the process of recruiting a new managing director for Water PNG.
“We will be having our induction on Tuesday with KCH so we will get up to speed on where that process is and to understand their expectations of the board,” he said.
“Primarily the legislation had been passed, the merger has taken place and there’s a big change process, so we’ve got to manage that change and ensure that the business continues without any disruptions.
“I’m big on making sure of no corruption, we do things the right way and take the organisation to the where it belongs to.
“I’m happy with the composition of the board.”
