CHILDREN attending Bialla Elementary School in West New Britain can now enjoy a bigger learning space following the launch of a K85,000 double classroom funded by the Digicel PNG Foundation.
Bialla Elementary School is now the third school in the province to have benefited from the Digicel Foundation roll-out of educational infrastructure throughout the country.
The steel pre-fabricated double classroom will cater for 40 students. It includes office space for teachers and a water tank.
The school, which is the only elementary school in Bialla town, was established in 2002 by the Bialla township community and more than 300 children enrolled.
The community is made up of workers of the Hargy Oil Palm Plantation as well as neighbouring villages which have been very supportive of the school.
Digicel Foundation chief executive officer Marina van der Vlies said: “It is extremely important that self-reliant communities and schools in PNG are recognised for their efforts and are well supported and the Digicel PNG Foundation is passionate about assisting these local communities provide vital basic education for their children.
“The Bialla Elementary School is one that has proven to be organised and committed in ensuring its children receive vital basic education therefore we are delighted to have provided them with this wonderful double classroom structure to support and further their initiatives.”
