The newly-built Kama Kofi Factory along Bihute Road outside Goroka opened its doors for business after a dedication service on Tuesday.
Factory owner and managing director Richard Sinamoi said the factory would employ youths to do coffee-buying and production. Sinamoi said the factory would process coffee parchment bought from growers and buyers in Eastern Highlands, Chimbu, Jiwaka and Western Highlands.
“We now have our buyers in all these provinces, including Morobe and Madang,” he said.
“Parchment will be sold to us at very competitive prices to have a win-win situation between us and the growers.”
Sinamoi expects his factory to go into full production by next week.
“Five machines, ordered from Pinhalense in Brazil and installed,
have the capacity to produce one tonne of green bean bags per hour,” he said.
“They are fitted with driers, cleaners, haulers, polishers and dancing metric tables that grade beans.”
Sinamoi, a former rugby league player who made it into the Kumuls, is also hoping to become a success in coffee.
He thanked managing director of Kaiaworks Civil Engineering and Construction Godfried Umba and his team for building the factory.
