ROAD clearance for new construction is raising concern at the Tasion Police Barracks in Port Moresby, a senior police officer says.

Residents protested and forced work to stop, acting metropolitan superintendent Chief Insp Silas Wayagure said.

Their concerns include no notice from the authorities prior to the construction and traffic and health harzards occurring as the result of construction and work, Wayagure said.

“The residents affected want to be relocated to another location before the construction is in full swing,” he said.

“They (residents) are in favour of the development but they should have been informed or the police hierarchy should have been consulted so that they (residents) can give their views.”

The police hierarchy met with National Central District Commission officials and engineers and were shown road plans yesterday, Wayagure said.

The residents are concerned about the negative impacts the constructions would bring about, he said.

Police officers affected by the work submitted a complaint to NCDC and NCD and the Central divisional commander, Assistant Police Commissioner Jim Andrews yesterday.
