New direction for landowners

 THE Auwi Hembe land owner group from Hela has set a pace for other land owners after receiving the Incorporated Land Group (ILG) certificate.

The certificate presentation in Port Moresby last week was witnessed by department and group members. 

Senior ILG officer Judah Suka said there was a need to recognise the land and under the ILG amended Act 2009 with the automated ILG system.

Suka said they had met all the requirements. The previous ILG Act had overlooked the needs of owners.

“There is a great need for the land to be protected and land owners must take ownership of that as it avoids disputes,” Suka said. 

Auwi Hembe was the first group to  receive the certificate.
