New executive on cards

THE Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation will have a new chief executive officer (CEO) in the coming months, an official says.
PNGSF board chairman Ian Chow told The National yesterday that there had been a number of applicants for the role vacated by former CEO Peter Tsiamalili Jr.
Chow clarified that the board would only recommend a candidate for the role but the decision would be made by the Government through the National Executive Council (NEC).
“There are a good number of applicants coming in but we, the board, will only recommend someone out of the three candidates that will be shortlisted,” he said.
“But the decision will come from the government.
“The NEC headed by the Prime Minister, who is also the Minister for Sports, they will be the ones that make the decision.
“We should have the short listed applicants probably by the end of next month.”
Meanwhile, when asked by The National if former chief executive Peter Tsiamalili Jr was eligible to reapply for the role, Chow said his term was over and it was time for a new leader.
“I don’t think so. I believe he (Tsiamalili Jr) had his term and he is happy where he is.
“It is time for a new leader to move this institution forward into the future. Hope all goes well and we have a new chief executive in the coming months. We look forward to working with whoever that succeeds as the replacement,” he said.
Tsiamalili Jr resigned in April to contest the Bougainville presidential elections and finished third.
