AN integrated services building will be built in Chimbu’s Mingende for HIV counselling and care, prevention
of parent to child
transmission (PPTCT) of HIV programme, antiretroviral treatment (ART) clinic, men’s clinic and family support centre.
Kundiawa-Gembogl MP Joe Mek Teine made a K200,000 allocation to the St Joseph Rural Hospital for the building.
The allocation, approved under the district health improvement programme, was presented and witnessed by hospital staff, board members, Kundiawa-Gembogl district staff and representatives from Kundiawa General Hospital.
Simbu provincial Catholic health secretary Sr Kinga Czerwonka and Mingende Hospital administrator Elisabeth Koai received the money on behalf of the hospital.
The hospital is a leading care provider in the province, especially in HIV/AIDS programmes.
The presentation was made on Tuesday after Mr Teine made a public commitment last Friday at the official launching of the Kundiawa-Gembogl district health improvement programme to support the health sector
in the province.
Sr Czerwonka said Mr Teine made the presentation in recognition of the hospital’s services and
efforts to provide quality health care.
“Even though Mingende is not in his electorate but in Kerowagi, such a contribution would boost the hospital’s services,” she said.
She also commended Mr Teine for presenting the Catholic run Goglme health centre in Gembogl district with an ambulance last Friday.
The hospital not only serves people in the province but also admits patients from other Highlands provinces.
