POLICE personnel in New Ireland have been urged to get the basics of policing right.
From simple procedures such as taking complaints to prosecuting matters and ensuring justice is served, an official says.
Provincial police commander Chief Inspector Felix Nebanat said this after Assistant Commissioner of Police, New Guinea Islands Pedrou N’Dranou visited the New Ireland command centre.
“We have a huge task ahead of us with the continuing state of manpower, limited resources and a challenging geographical setting that present challenges to law and order management,” he said.
He said this was part of a reform that would be rolled out soon.
“This will raise the standard of policing and restore the public’s trust in the police as stated in the Royal PNG Constabulary corporate plan 2021-2030.
“For too long, these simple procedures have been made complex by a lack of proper command and control, discipline within the force and lack of coordination, however this time we begin a new journey to serve our people by doing things right,” he said.
Nebanat said improving and maintaining the standard of work would ensure quality and effective policing and it would optimise resources and boost morale in the ranks of our officers.
