LOCAL company Pivot Pacific Ltd (PPL) will expand its market for solar lanterns to the Pacific, general manager Ronnie Kelemes says.

He said the company had been distributing this product since last year.

Kelemes said the company is finalising deals with the US firm D-light Designs for a sole distributorship of the lanterns within the South Pacific region.

“The sales of the product have come out well and has been on demands by end-users and sub-distributors since it was introduced last year.

“Our first order was for S-300 only, the one with the mobile chargers.

“Samples of the study lanterns and the smaller lanterns have been doing well … we are currently placing an order worth K60,000 for both lamps.

MoU and contract is ongoing. Our first bulk order that arrived last week is worth K56,000,  Kelemes said.

“However, this will double in our next order two months from now.”

The solar lanterns and mobile chargers have three models:

the S300 (lantern and mobile charger); S20 (family lantern); and the S2 (students’ study lights).

Kelemes said the light comes with rechargeable batteries complete with deep discharge and overcharge protection to preserve battery life.

He called on the government to use the solar lamps for country’s rural electrification programme.
