NATIONAL Capital District Metropolitan Supt Silva Sika says appointments and promotions are based on competence and performance of police officers.
He made the remark at the handover of outgoing zone one commander Senior Insp Joseph Salle to his successor Insp Jerry Obert, who was the Badili police station commander.
Salle has been appointed police commander for Central.
He commended Salle for his time and journey as being the zone one commander.
“I’ve seen, observed and have assessed him very closely and he has performed extremely well. Salle was officer in-charge for NCD traffic before.
“I knew this was coming that he would one day be promoted,” Sika said.
“You can only be recognised through your performance and the honest service that you provide in your career.”
Salle said it was an honour and privilege to have served as zone one commander and he is grateful for the unwavering support and dedication from those who worked under him.
He acknowledged the police force under the guidance of Police Commissioner David Manning for his vision that has been instrumental, in empowering the middle level management officers to be elevated.
Obert thanked the NCD command for having the trust and confidence in his appointment.
“Policing by nature is a collective effort from everyone and I look forward to working with you all,” he said.
