Newmont win Slow Pitch 7s Cup

NEWMONT have made a statement securing the 2024 Corporate Slow Pitch 7s Cup after defeating reigning champions PNG Power Sparkies 4-2 at the Bisini Softball diamonds yesterday.
Captain Julianna Paliau said they did not expect much when fielding the team for the first time in this year’s Port Moresby Men’s Softball Association-sanctioned C7s tournament.
“I’m really impressed with the performance my team have stepped up to over the last two weekends, most of my teammates didn’t really know much about softball so it was a learning process,” Paliau said.
“To be able to play and win our matches and get this far was an added bonus especially coming out in the grand final and winning PNG Power Sparkies who were also great.”
She said it was a new experience for them with half of the team not having any knowledge about the code, however, came out to give their best.
“It was a good opportunity to network, for team bonding at the same time with a learning experience,” Paliau said.
“We extend our gratitude to our Newmont management for allowing us to come and play and to the association for extending the invitation and I know Newmont will continue to support in this way.”
