NFA urged to grow revenue

NATIONAL Fisheries Authority (NFA) chairman Ango Wangatau has urged the organisation to increase its revenue.
He said in Port Moresby on Thursday that with the K100 million allocated for the Pacific Maritime Industrial Zone (PMIZ) project, NFA would look to be innovative.
“We have already incorporated a company called Fisheries Capital.
“We do not want to go into the legacy issue, we want something different, innovative and consistent with our strategic plan to move the industry forward.”
Wangatau said NFA’s core responsibility was managing fisheries and they had done well but the aim now was to ensure fish caught in PNG waters was processed in the country instead of being taken to other countries.
“We can (do that). Government is waiting to build the infrastructure and invite the private sector to be partners in processing and catching. That is our vision to implementing our strategic plan.”
Wangatau said NFA had done a concept design with a K100 million implementation budget.
He added that a feasibility study had been done and a financial plan was being completed in order to acquire funding from the government.
