THE reviewing of the National Sports Policy this year will involve a stakeholder for the first time, a non-government organisations, WaterAid PNG.
The PNG government through the Ministry of Sports and the PNG Sports Foundation in consultation with the Department of National Planning and Monitoring signed a Memorandum of Understanding with WaterAid PNG on Tuesday to signify the new partnership in the reviewing of the National Sports Policy.
Sports Foundation chief executive officer Peter Tsiamalili Jr described the signing of the MoU and the newly forged partnership as a milestone approach for the foundation to deliver sports and establish a framework on how to drive sports into the future.
“This partnership with WaterAid will provide guidance on how sports will run and how the Sports Foundation will deliver its programmes throughout the country within the next five to 10 years,” Tsiamalili Jr said.
“WaterAid PNG decided to sign the MoU after the Sports Foundation made a presentation on what they aspire to achieve in terms of policy review.
“Water Aid have identified areas in which they will come in and the Sports Foundation is honoured to work with them.
“During the PNG Games last year, WaterAid PNG identified a big gap in which they can come in and complement the organisation in terms of sports policy review.
“Sports is growing and we need partners like Water Aid to help define how policy drives sport in the country,” Tsiamalili Jnr said.
Meanwhile the a local Consulting firm, Zimcare Limited is taking the lead in the reviewing of the National Sports Policy which was last reviewed in 2004 by Griffith University.
