RECIPIENTS of property titles in Lae under the National Housing Corporation’s Giveaway Scheme have applauded the management for making it possible for them after years of waiting.
Timothy Haiabona, speaking on behalf of the six people who received titles to their houses on Wednesday, said it was the first time in Lae that such thing happened.
Out of the six, two were from Wau in Bulolo district while the other four were residents in Lae city.
“Some of us have been living in the house for a very long time while others have died while their families are still waiting for this moment to come,” he said.
Haiabona said many tenants faced people trying to falsely claim their properties and the NHC had taken a timely step in handing them the titles and they appreciated it greatly.
He said there were still many out there trying to get titles to their houses but it was unfortunate that only six were granted titles.
“This shows that we were honest in following the set processes and procedures under the NHC and its stakeholders which made it easier for the management to process our claims faster.”
He said he would feel at ease now that his property was under his name.
Another title recipient, Basil Sokepa, said his dream was realised when the NHC called and told him to receive the title to his property.
He said he has been waiting for this occasion since 1996 and thanked the National Housing Corporation management.
Maria Ori Uvisa said her family had moved into their house in the 1970s and have been paying rent since.
“We paid off the house in 2009 and waited for the title from NHC up until now and were given the title,” she said.
