NHC to take over its properties: Mokono

National

EVERY land or property owned by the National Housing Corporation (NHC) across the country will be taken over by the corporation following reports of illegal tenants occupying most of their properties, managing director Henry Mokono says.
He said there were landowners and other occupants who had been occupying their properties and doing business on their land.
“NHC together with its business arm, the National Housing Estate Ltd (NHEL), are working on taking over every land and property that we own,” he said.
Mokono said tenants had owed them over the years and they were working on solving the issue.
“The latest update from December has showed that all these default tenants owe NHC over K14 million.”
He said the exercise to occupy their properties had started in Lae, New Ireland, West Sepik, Wewak and Madang and would move to other parts of the country.
He said Port Moresby was a big city with most of their land and properties.
“NHC has massive land and properties in Port Moresby, most of which were disposed by NHEL.”
He said NHC was going through cases where most of the land and property they owned were sold by the former boards and management of NHEL.
