REFURBISHMENT work on National Housing Corporation (NHC) headquarters is to start next month, managing director Henry Mokono says.
He said this after the corporation engaged four local civil engineering companies to review and approve the design and refurbishment on the agency’s facilities at an agreement signing in Port Moresby yesterday.
The cost of the refurbishment funded by the Government is K10 million and is targeted to be completed in 12 months.
“They will go through the details of the new office designed by our engineering team to ensure refurbishment work begins in few weeks’ time,” Mokono said.
He said the NHC building had been in existence since the country’s independent in 1975.
Project manager and architect Joseph Poh said the designs and scope of works were completed by outside professionals and approved for tendering.
He said the Government would be updated on the project’s progress quarterly.
Construction and design companies to work with NHC to demolish, renovate and refurbish the building include:

  • JOURNEY Architects – for review and approval of architectural documentation;
  • TAIE Ltd – for review and approval of structural engineering design and documentation;
  • NAKAMUH Construction Service Ltd – for review and approval of civil engineering design and documentation; and,
  • M&E Partnership (Papua New Guinea) Ltd, to provide building services, design and documentation.

Meanwhile, NHC will move operations to a new office at New Horizon, Eight-Mile, when the refurbishment work starts.
