THE National Identity (NID) Office at Boroko in the National Capital District will soon be relocated to Moale House, acting registrar-general of the PNG Civil and Identity Registry Michael Kumung says.
Kumung, responding to queries from The National last week regarding the lockout of the Boroko office by the landlord over non-payment rentals by the government, said the Government Office allocation committee (GOAC) had deliberated on the issue and allocated a floor of Moala House to NID.
“A new office at Moale House where the Commerce, Trade and Industry Department and the ministry are housed has been allocated to us by the allocation committee,” he said.
“But there needs to be some refurbishment work done before we take the office, that has already been arranged.
“So we are hoping to have our new office open by the end of July.”
Kumung said the lockout at Boroko had not affected their registrations in NCD.
“Our registrations in NCD is being done by mobile teams. But those who have registered and waiting to collect their NID cards and birth certificates were issued at our main NID Office at Waigani.”
Kumung said they were having different mobile registrations teams that included government agencies, corporate bodies, churches and schools and institutions, general public and a team on standby for unexpected calls in NCD and Central.
“We are planning to increase our mobile NID registration teams and have them stationed at the public places in the National Capital District and other urban centres so people can register in the public places,” he said.
“We are now trying to bring the registrations closer to where the people are.”
