A PRIVATE security firm in Goroka, Eastern Highlands, has come to the aid of the Goroka General Hospital by replacing a sewerage pump that was stolen.
After being invited to witness the assessment of vandalism and theft of the pump on Jan 30, Night Owl Security Services immediately sought quotations and bought a new pump for K3,212 from Brian Bell in Goroka.
Company managing director Winchlee Oibotee said the hospital could not operate without a serviceable pump.
He said the hospital management was about to take drastic steps, including looking at the option of closing the hospital.
“Goroka General Hospital is one of the top hospitals in Eastern Highlands province,” he said. “Everyone has an obligation to take ownership of it and it is thoughtless of selfish individuals to steal from the hospital.
“As a local company from the province, I am happy to at least play a part to ensure our
hospital continues to operate.”
Hospital director corporate services Michael Makao thanked the company for buying the replacement pump.
“If it had not been for your wise decision to purchase the pump, we would have no choice but to shut down operations at the hospital,” Makao said.
He said a lot of equipment had been stolen from the hospital in the recent past.
“Most of them have been replaced through kind donations,” he said.
