PEOPLE living in urban areas of New Ireland will have to comply with new fencing regulations that come into effect immediately, imposing maximum height of four feet or one meter for all fencing installations, and allowing an 18-month grace period for compliance by current residents in breach of this law.
The provincial executive council (PEC) directed the lands and physical planning and urban LLG in August to strictly enforce the law, and submit review on enforcement and penalties.
In announcing this, governor and PEC chairman Sir Julius Chan said the Digicel monopole tower in Kavieng that was recently erected would likely come down because it was not consistent with requirements of the town plan.
He said the provincial lands and physical board had not granted approval and action would be taken against persons responsible.
The PEC also deliberated on the guidelines of the government’s new and innovative policy on roof-over-heads but referred it back to the administration for final review in preparation for implementation.
Sir Julius also announced the upgrade of the status of the subsidy unit responsible for handling almost K30 million to date in education fees for more than 41,000 students by upgrading the position of office manager and requested for a full status report on the bulk rations for recipient schools.
