NIP gets health, education projects

THE Mineral Resources Authority last week launched five projects in central New Ireland local level government and Namatanai districts in New Ireland.
The projects are three residential houses for health workers at Kokola, Lamau and Palabong, a health centre at Messi and a duplex classroom at Kulot Primary School.
The three two-bedroom houses will have all the normal amenities.
The health centre at Messi has four rooms, which will accommodate outpatients wards, dispensary and an office. The double-story classroom at Kulot will accommodate students in Grades 7 or 8 and a library.
Authority acting managing director Kepas Wali said the national government was committed to bringing services directly to rural areas in provinces where mining projects were located.
He said the MRA, as the lead agency and regulator of the mining industry, had a vision to improve the lives of all citizens through the  management of the nation’s mineral resources.
Community and local leaders thanked MRA and the government for the funded projects.

Community representative of wards 15,16,17,18 and 19 in the central New Ireland LLG, and former deputy governor Sialis Sipagas said during the launching of Messi health centre it would boost the delivery of services in the area.
He thanked MRA for coming to the aid of his people by establishing the new health centre.
The projects were funded under the Lihir Mine Public Investment Programme (PIP).
