THE New Ireland executive council has revoked the appointment of the New Ireland university committee.
This was among a number of decisions made during the provincial executive council (PEC) meeting that were vital in driving the province forward.
The council directed education director Apelis Benson to review the board of the university committee and appoint suitable and qualified persons to be at the technical working team.
Governor Sir Julius Chan advised the PEC that additional information was needed to assess the government policies under the New Ireland Malagan declaration.
The PEC also directed the social sector to re-enforce and strengthen the youth, sports and women’s councils as these were vital areas at the local, district and provincial level.
The PEC recommended that they be involved in the operation of sports stadiums, which would be built in Bopire and Kavieng.
The council had also approved the establishment of an entity to manage the new market currently under construction.
The market management authority will be responsible for erecting and establishing market infrastructures, such as retail stores, restaurants, fast food bars within the market square.
Meanwhile Sir Julius expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress of projects such as the Mussau ring road, aid post and classroom projects at Kabanut, Lossuk to Lavolai (Bokap Crossing), Kabanut-Palabong-Nasko road, Tanir project, Babase health centre, Natong aid post and Malendok and Boang road upgrades.
