TEACHERS in New Ireland can expect much improved service in the payment of their salaries after the installation of the Alesco payroll system.

It becomes the ninth province to use the Human Resource Information System launched by the acting first assistant secretary for corporate services Etwin Apai last Friday.

The corporate services of the Education Department is responsible for the finance and administration division, procurement and human resources and Organisation Development Division which caters for personnel and payroll.

The launching was done at the Carteret Primary School in Kavieng.

Teachers from nearby schools turned up to witness the launching. A demonstration of how information on them are entered into the system was done by one of the provincial salary officers.

Acting provincial education director Herman Poyasei said the system would ensure a smooth flow of information regarding teachers and their movement.

He told the teachers now that the payroll system had been brought closer to them, they must work to provide quality education to the children.

Apai told teachers and public servants at Carteret Primary School that 2013 was the Year of Implementation as directed by the Government and the Department of Education was doing just that.
