NEW Ireland is sending a 500-plus contingent to represent the province in the November 5th PNG Grassroots games in Kokopo.
Chairman of the Provincial Sports Council Bau Waulas confirmed a total of 380 athletes, 76 team officials and 50 management personnel have been selected to carry the New Ireland flag in 18 respective sporting codes.
Waulas said it is a hectic task to put together the team and all must be reminded of the Motto of the team and that is – ‘Play to Win.’
He said the Sports Council attributes the success of their preparations to the commitment of New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan but a bigger hurdle lies ahead to be achieved and that is for team NIP to bring back Gold.
“New Ireland will be one of the provinces competing for the top post and that’s going for gold.”
We have identified 18 codes to part take in believing the outcome to be favorable,” Waulas said.
Waulas believes the current outcome of preparations sets the precedent for future participation of New Ireland in the PNG games, unlike in the past.
