THE K13 million Special Agricultural Business Lease (SABL) inquiry report is still with the Justice Ministry and Attorney-General with no action taken since 2011, Northern Governor Gary Juffa says.
“The inquiry was initiated in June 2011 by then acting Prime Minister Sam Abal,” he told Parliament’s grievance debate on Friday.
“The inquiry showed that 55,000sqkm of land were illegally taken by companies (foreign companies).
“The inquiry, costing K13 million and initiated on June 29, 2011, showed that there were 75 SABLs to be reviewed but only 42 were presented by two commissioners with the third commissioner not presenting his report. Of the 42 reviewed, 38 were deemed illegal but those SABL are (still) operating, but now, they are operating under what they call ‘forest clearance authorities’ and by the same companies are still involved.”
Juffa said the report was housed with the Justice Ministry Bryan Kramer and that Kramer should take note and take immediate action on the report.
“While we are concerned about the environment and concerned about what is happening to our natural environment, these companies responsible for destroying it are still out there destroying at will and is totally inconsiderate to our future.”
