No attention given to AIDS

Letters

IT is of top concern that the Government and Department of Health seriously consider funding the National AIDS Council Secretariat (Nacs) to carry out its HIV/AIDS programmes.
It is very sad to hear the Nacs acting council director speak about the lack of funding to implement its programmes resulted in spread of HIV/AIDS throughout the country.
This is bad scenario for PNG, while the country is facing the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, less attention is being given to Nacs.
Having said that, the former directors need to be investigated because during their term, a lot of money for Nacs was misappropriated and misused.
The challenge is on the secretariat’s board and relevant authorities to audit their books because it is evident that a lot of money has been misappropriated.
Only an audit will reveal the truth and bring those responsible to justice.
This misappropriation has contributed to the rise in HIV/AIDS cases and deaths.
Provinces are not implementing HIV/AIDS programmes because of lack of funding.
Who is to be blamed for the spread of HIV/AIDS?
