THE Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation says no decision has been made on whether to call off this year’s eighth PNG Games amid doubts over the event due to Covid-19.
Foundation executive director Micah James told The National that calls to cancel the Games were hindering their work in proceeding with the Games in Southern Highlands in November.
“Unqualified comments from people seem to dominate the truth in government projects and activities that we are trying to deliver,” he said.
“We are trying to see what we can do best at this time and we will advise at the appropriate time and soon.”
James’ comments came after concerns were raised by several provinces questioning the preparedness of Southern Highlands amid the Covid-19 situation throughout the country.
Team National Capital District claimed it was likely to have the Games cancelled with the current situation in the nation’s capital.
Mendi came under scrutiny last year after the construction of venues and sporting facilities for the Games were running behind schedule, forcing the postponement to 2021.
The local organising committee told The National earlier this year that the venues and facilities would be ready by October.
